New In Town?

If you're new to the City of New Haven, or "Elm City" welcome and thank you for visiting my blog. I started this blog in part because I love to write and in part because this cute little city hardly gets good press. Most folks who are new to the area don't get a chance to experience the good stuff it has to offer, and so I thought to share good experiences from a resident's point of view. Take a note of my favorite meetup group - the New Haven Collective. It is one good way to start your journey here - the group which has 1200+ members, organizes everything from unrelenting Monday 6pm happy hours (yes, we NEVER cancel!) to hiking and volunteering. Check out SeeClickFix.com a New Haven based online reporting tool now used nationally. It's a great community-driven site that allows you to report any concers that are non-emergencies (fallen tree or lamp post) or things that are weird or just plain suspect. Browse to see what others are reporting in your neighborhood!

New Haven is a college city, home to many universities but known mostly for housing Yale University whose Gothic buildings decorate downtown. Other residents are: Southern CT State University, Gateway Community College, University of New Haven, Albertus Magnus and Quinnipiac University in neighboring Hamden, CT.

Trivia

New Haven is host to Louis' Lunch restaurant where the FIRST burger sandwich was reportedly served. Go take a look, see what burgers looked like in 1895, but whatever you do - don't ask for condiments!

New Haven is also known for its legendary super yummy pizza restaurants: Sally's and Pepe's restaurants in historic Wooster Square and New Haven's own 'Little Italy' neighborhood. If you plan to go there for dinner, get ready to wait in line for at least an hour or so!My personal favorites are BAR and Modern Apizza.
